About The Position

The Field Applications Engineer within Viasat Government provides customer, production, and engineering support for US and foreign government systems, including hubs, remote terminals, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment. Support is provided remotely and onsite. The role is based in Carlsbad, California, requires an on-call rotation, and involves travel of 75% within the continental United States and overseas as needed.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience with SATCOM TDMA theory, RF, antennas, and test methods.
• Experience operating spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
• Experience developing technical user documentation.
• Experience delivering technical training.
• Experience resolving issues with SATCOM networks and terminals, as well as IP networking.
• Associate degree in a technical subject area or equivalent experience.
• US citizenship required for this US government position.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one when administratively feasible; an interim clearance must be granted before the start date.
• Ability to work an on-call rotation.
• Ability to travel 75% within the United States and overseas.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with UHF DAMA and IW SATCOM systems and network operations.
• Experience with SATCOM network operations.
• Understanding of military standards and cryptographic baseband equipment, such as KY-100M, KY-99, and KIV-7M.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting SATCOM hubs, system issues, terminals, and IP network equipment.
• Experience with customer service and ticketing systems such as Salesforce.
• Prior military background.

Responsibilities

• Support installation and deployment, testing, documentation, training, operations, and maintenance of UHF DAMA and IW networks.
• Collaborate with internal and external customers.
• Support hardware and software installations and updates.
• Troubleshoot electrical, IP networking, configuration management, and information assurance issues, and update technical publications accordingly.
• Provide onsite customer support within the United States and overseas as needed.
