About The Position

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) is seeking a Field Application Engineering (FAE) Co-Op to support customers and internal teams in the application of X-ES embedded computing products. This position provides hands-on experience working with advanced embedded technologies from Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, and other industry-leading suppliers while gaining exposure to real-world customer applications and system-level engineering. FAEs serve as a technical bridge between X-ES customers, Sales, and Engineering. Depending on business needs and the student's interests, responsibilities may include evaluating customer requirements, developing technical demonstrations, troubleshooting embedded systems, researching emerging technologies, and creating technical documentation. This position offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of technologies including rugged embedded computing, Intel and AMD processors, FPGAs, PCIe, Ethernet, VPX/OpenVPX, high-speed I/O, memory, operating systems, and other embedded system technologies. This position is full-time and in-person at our Verona, WI facility for a Spring/Summer 2027 Co-Op (January-August 2027) or a Summer/Fall 2027 Co-Op (May-December 2027). This typically requires students to take a semester off of school to accommodate.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
  • Completion of at least two years of college coursework
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with small, dedicated engineering teams
  • Hands-on approach to engineering with a strong desire to learn new technologies and solve complex problems
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively
  • Ability to work onsite from our facility located at 9901 Silicon Prairie Parkway in Verona, WI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with embedded computing systems, single board computers, or development boards
  • Knowledge of Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, ARM, or FPGA-based computing architectures
  • Familiarity with PCI Express, Ethernet, networking, or high-speed serial interfaces
  • Familiarity with VPX, OpenVPX, SOSA, or other embedded computing standards
  • Experience with Linux or other operating systems
  • Knowledge of C, C++, Python, or scripting
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or other electronic test equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware or software problems
  • Familiarity with reading schematics and hardware documentation
  • Ability to research unfamiliar technologies and quickly develop a working understanding of them

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced Field Application Engineers to support customer technical requirements and applications
  • Assist with customer evaluations, product demonstrations, proof-of-concept systems, and technical presentations
  • Assist with product bring-up, configuration, testing, and validation
  • Perform competitive analysis and research competing embedded computing products and technologies
  • Help maintain technical information used by the FAE team, including application notes, product comparisons, presentations, block diagrams and other technical documentation
  • Document technical findings, troubleshooting procedures, and solutions for reuse by the FAE and Engineering teams
