About The Position

Field Applications Engineers assist customers and ZEISS sales teams with pre-sales activities, including product demonstrations and sales support, and post-sales activities, including helping customers understand and apply ZEISS hardware and software systems. Support may include demonstrations, formal and custom training, telephone and on-site support, programming, and measurement services. The role requires professional conduct, customer orientation, and a consultative approach. At Level 4, the position provides advanced applications and systems consultation, supports new product introductions in North America, and provides technical assistance and training to field sales personnel, the Industrial Metrology dealer network, and customers. The role also supports software and system testing, customer project activities, application quotations, and on-site implementation. It requires at least eight years of experience in a Field Applications Engineer Level 3 role, or equivalent experience when hired externally, as well as a willingness to travel 45–70% in the USA and internationally.

Requirements

A four-year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics; equivalent work-related experience may be considered.
At least eight years of experience in a Field Applications Engineer Level 3 role; equivalent experience may be considered for external hires.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Understanding of 3D mathematics and computer programming techniques in modern scientific computer languages.
Excellent verbal communication skills and comfort presenting technical information to small or large audiences.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and related software packages.
Valid driver’s license.
U.S. citizenship due to applicable ITAR requirements.
Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.
Ability to teach and train during product demonstrations or customer training classes and explain how products solve customer problems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently from problem statement through solution.
Ability to learn independently to address potential customer measurement problems.
Ability and willingness to travel in the USA and internationally (45–70%).
Ability to understand and support IT-related issues, including Windows operating systems, networking, and database management.
Ability to understand Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts.
Ability to understand Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).

Responsibilities

Provide technical consultation to field sales personnel and the Industrial Metrology dealer network on advanced applications and systems.
Facilitate the flow and accuracy of technical information to the field sales force.
Maintain a focus on advanced applications and new ZEISS technology.
Support the introduction of new products into the North American market.
Provide technical training programs to field sales personnel and the Industrial Metrology dealer network.
Plan, prepare, and perform customer demonstrations in-house and in the field.
Provide technical after-sales support to help customers use ZEISS systems successfully.
Provide customer training as needed to supplement the Applications Engineering staff.
Support Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology systems.
Respond to customer and department questions regarding software and applications support.
Assist with software and system testing for product development.
File accurate software performance reports.
Provide applications expertise for project-related activities.
Respond to customer quotation requests, including analyzing inspection requirements and quoting part-programming costs.
Estimate anticipated Gage R&R results.
Implement quoted application items on-site.
Perform other duties as required.
