About The Position

The Fermentation Microbiologist provides knowledge in fermentation, microbiology, and related plant processes to lead change and improve production processes. The role supports food manufacturing by contributing technical knowledge and project support for issues related to fermentation and spore production processes.

The position is based in Blair, Nebraska. Relocation assistance is not provided. The employee must be able and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of two years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of microbiology concepts, theories, and techniques.
• Able and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Prior work experience or knowledge related to industrial microbiology, industrial fermentation, or high-sterility fermentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing processes and practices that promote knowledge and standards sharing across the company and with suppliers, including contract manufacturing organizations, standard operating procedures, and benchmarking.
• Develop training materials and train employees in areas of responsibility to sustain and improve plant performance within a specific group or department.
• Develop, deploy, and sustain microbial seed stocks for production fermentation.
• Develop the design and execution of laboratory trials, identify trends, and troubleshoot activities to provide knowledge and add value to the organization and suppliers’ products, processes, and equipment.
• Continuously assess routine to difficult and varied analytical measurement systems used for production decisions to ensure the accuracy of systems, equipment, and parameters.
• Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision and escalate more complex issues to appropriate staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
