About The Position

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Fellowship Director for the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. This division is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellence in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. Physicians in this division provide a broad range of basic and specialized medical and surgical services related to complex pelvic floor disorders. The role involves participating in clinical services initiatives of the UW Health System, providing obstetrics and gynecologic care, and overseeing the development of clinical niches. The position also includes supervising and training faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students, and collaborating with colleagues from urology, colorectal surgery, and GI medicine to advance the pelvic floor disorders program. The fellowship program has been in existence for 6 years and is cross-disciplinary with fellowship-trained urologists and dedicated pelvic floor colorectal surgeons contributing to the educational environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a four-year approved/accredited residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn).
  • Board certified or eligible (BC/BE) in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Completion of a three-year board approved fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (FPMRS)/ Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery URPS.
  • BC/BE FPMRS/ URPS.
  • At least four years of post-fellowship Ob/Gyn experience.
  • MD or DO degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidate will have completed an approved fellowship in FPMRS/URPS and have significant experience with pelvic floor surgery.
  • Preferred candidate will have a track record as an accomplished academic urogynecologist.
  • Candidates for Associate Professor or Professor must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track.

Responsibilities

  • Organization and oversight of the fellowship educational program.
  • Implementation of all necessary policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance of all required documentation and correspondence with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the University Hospital Graduate Medical Education office, and the Ob-Gyn Vice Chair of Education.
  • Direct responsibility and teaching involvement with Ob-Gyn.
  • Providing oversight and direction to the department fellowship coordinator.
  • Participating in the care of patients at the UW Health and Meriter Hospitals.
  • Management of complex pelvic floor disorders.
  • Full-time call for urogynecology patients and consults.
  • Continuing to build an advanced sub-specialty practice.
  • Working with the Gynecologic Oncology (Gyn Onc) and Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ASOG) Divisions, assessing advanced gynecologic disease.
  • Participating in opportunities for community service at the department, school, and institution levels appropriate to the tenure/CHS faculty rank.
  • Active participation in the clinical, research, and academic service in the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Division in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Initiating and participating in clinical research studies, as well as quality and outcome programs.
  • Participation in teaching programs related to medical students, residents and fellowships.
  • Responsibilities in the simulation lab, developing advanced skills and metrics for learners.
  • Overseeing the training of residents and fellows in the operating room, clinic, and inpatient unit.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • Working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
