About The Position

The New York Times is hiring an elections analytics fellow for its 2027 Fellowship class in New York. The fellow will contribute to the newspaper’s data-driven coverage of American elections as part of an interdisciplinary Election Analytics team of reporters, editors, developers and statisticians. The team produces The New York Times/Siena University Poll, The Needle live election-night forecast, a polling tracker, and stories examining voter decisions and past elections. The fellow will use their knowledge of elections and voting to contribute to stories, graphics and longer-term projects. The role will be shaped by the fellow’s background and may involve developing technical skills to answer questions independently or improving the ability to communicate analysis in writing. The position is in-office four days per week, with possible remote-work flexibility under departmental guidance. Nights, weekends and holidays may be required as needed. The fellowship is scheduled to begin on or about June 7, 2027, and end on May 26, 2028, subject to satisfactory performance. Completion does not guarantee a full-time position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; the company will not sponsor work visas, but will consider applicants with valid work authorization or a valid student visa that can be extended with Optional Practical Training.
