The Los Angeles Times is hiring a temporary reporter for 2026 election coverage, focusing on local races and the aftermath of election results across the region. The reporter will cover local politics and dig deeply into Los Angeles and county bureaucracies, reporting breaking news on deadline and writing longer-term stories on topics such as post-fire recovery, homelessness and elections. The role regularly collaborates with writers covering Los Angeles County, Sacramento and breaking news. Experience covering L.A. city and county government is a plus. The temporary position is based in El Segundo, Calif., and downtown Los Angeles, and is expected to last 60 days. Occasional night and weekend work is expected. Reporters must have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle in good working condition, and suitable auto insurance coverage. Qualified candidates should send a resume, cover letter and applicable clips to News Coverage Editor John Corrigan.
