About The Position

The Feedmill Operator maintains the running operation of the feed mill, including receiving and unloading ingredients, ordering ingredients, batching feed, and running the pellet mill process. The operator documents information about feed mill processes and operations, uses technology to create feed, and operates a locomotive to unload and move rail cars and trucks. Other tasks include pouring micros into bins, changing screens in hammer mills, cleaning the mills and facility as needed, and clearing certain processes when they become plugged. The operator also assists with other duties as assigned. The role involves working in a dusty environment, standing for the entire shift, and working with heavy machinery. It requires bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, climbing steps, and using a variety of tools. Safety equipment—including goggles and gloves—is required when working with feed; a dust mask is optional. Employees must use protective and safety equipment as directed by the Company. Noise exposure may range from 50 to 110 dB. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities, if applicable.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to read and write legibly.
Basic math functions and skills.
Sound work ethic, honesty, and good moral character.
Maintain a positive attitude and interpersonal interactions.
Maintain consistent and regular attendance; be prompt, punctual, and efficient with time.
Ability to work in a stationary position on one’s feet for the entire shift.
Ability to work with heavy machinery for the duration of the shift.
Ability to climb steps and access and egress through the feed mill.
Ability to use a variety of tools.
Ability to perform work involving bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting.
Wear required safety goggles and gloves when working with feed; a dust mask is optional.
Use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.

Responsibilities

Maintain the running operation of the feed mill.
Receive and unload ingredients upon arrival.
Place orders for ingredients.
Batch feed and run the pellet mill process.
Document information regarding feed mill processes and operations.
Clean the mills and facility as needed, including cleaning out certain processes when plugged.
Use technology to create feed.
Operate a locomotive and unload and move rail cars and trucks.
Pour micros into bins and change screens in the hammer mills.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe work area.
Wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
