The Office of Attorney Ethics (OAE) is vested with the discretion and authority to exercise exclusive jurisdiction over the investigation and prosecution of ethics matters involving serious and complex issues, including allegations of financial misappropriation of client or trust funds, as well as cases involving criminal conduct on the part of attorneys. The OAE is also charged with the oversight of the Fee Arbitration Program which helps clients resolve disputes with their attorneys about the legal fees they were charged. The New Jersey Judiciary, OAE is seeking a highly organized individual with excellent customer service, communication, time management, and technical skills. Under the general direction of the Statewide Fee Arbitration Coordinator, the selected candidate will perform a multitude of tasks, both collaboratively and independently within the Fee Arbitration Unit to support and organize the Fee Arbitration Program. The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Responsibilities

  • Enter case data into the OAE Fee Arbitration System and file case documents as necessary
  • Review case information for accuracy
  • Answer questions posed by clients, attorneys and volunteers on case status, requests for information and forms
  • Assist in organizing and compiling current and historical fee arbitration data for documents and reports
  • Assist in fee arbitration recordkeeping and case tracking
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Fee Arbitration Program and in the monitoring of open cases
  • Scanning documents into online case management program(s)
  • Training in CourtSmart technology and provide CourtSmart support for ethics hearings as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
