Federal Equipment Company has been a leading supplier of marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing. The Buyer will play a key role in sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials and supplies to support manufacturing and operations. This role requires strong negotiation, organizational, and communication skills to maintain cost-effective purchasing strategies and ensure timely delivery of quality products. The Buyer will work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to meet the needs of Federal Equipment Company’s rapidly growing operations.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or a related field.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to achieve cost savings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship (due to access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, NOFORN data).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in the manufacturing or defense industries.
  • Experience with specific software used by FEC.
  • Knowledge of government contracting requirements and FAR/DFAR regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and procure materials, equipment, and services in line with company requirements and specifications.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with vendors to achieve favorable outcomes for the company.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure sufficient stock while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Research and identify new suppliers and alternative sources for key materials.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and project management teams to support operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, contractual agreements, and government regulations related to procurement.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
  • Prepare purchase orders, maintain accurate records, and manage procurement documentation.
