About The Position

This position plays a key role in the successful operation of the Catawba Farmers Market, promoting local agriculture, supporting tribal food sovereignty, and fostering a vibrant community resource. The Farmers Market Lead supports the Food Sovereignty Manager by ensuring efficient Market operations, overseeing vendors and volunteer coordination, and enhancing customer experience. This role is ideal for someone passionate about community well-being, sustainable food systems, and tribal food access. This position reports directly to the Food Sovereignty Manager and is subject to the CIN Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in community markets, food service, nonprofit, or related fields.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience coordinating volunteers or managing events.
  • Working knowledge of public health and safety practices related to food distribution or open-air markets.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet insurability standards.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging vendors, customers, and volunteers.
  • Leadership ability to guide, motivate, and coordinate market volunteers and part-time staff.
  • Commitment to food sovereignty, community engagement, and cultural respect

  • Experience promoting community events and engaging diverse populations
  • Familiarity with local food systems, agriculture, and culturally relevant food practices.
  • Experience with event coordination and vendor recruitment
  • Basic knowledge of marketing strategies, especially using social media.
  • Understanding of seasonal produce and regional food availability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations of the Catawba Farmers Market, including site setup, customer assistance, vendor support, and closing duties.
  • Coordinate with vendors, volunteers, and community partners to ensure smooth market logistics.
  • Maintain accurate records of vendor participation, sales data, and customer engagement.
  • Implement food safety and sanitation protocols during market hours.
  • Ensure the market site remains clean, organized, and welcoming to the public.
  • Promote the farmers market through outreach efforts, community announcements, and in collaboration with the CIN communications team.
  • Assist with planning and executive special events or seasonal programs that increase attendance and community impact.
  • Supervise market staff and volunteers during market hours.
  • Provides support and assistance to farm operations at Black Snake Farm under the direction of Food Sovereignty Manager
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
