About The Position

The Farm Field Underwriter performs risk assessment and field underwriting for new and insured farms. This role involves conducting farm training for agents, assisting with quotes and sales of farm and crop hail products, and inspecting unique farm risks. The underwriter collaborates with the home office on risks outside company guidelines and works closely with the commercial field underwriting department. The position requires ongoing learning and technical development and involves hands-on work in various agricultural environments, including outdoor work in all weather conditions and entry into livestock confinement facilities, adhering to biosecurity protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 4 years of farm underwriting, agricultural industry, or sales experience.
  • Possess a strong agricultural background.
  • Ability to obtain P&C license and FAA Part 107 Pilot’s license.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, customer service, and political savvy skills.
  • Strong organizational/workflow and training/teaching skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and handle stressful situations on short timelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, build strong relationships, and stay current with corporate/industry/agricultural/commercial changes.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel® and company/industry programs.

Nice To Haves

  • AFIS, AAI, API, or AINS designations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects unique farm risks as requested by home office farm underwriters.
  • Collaborates with home office farm underwriter on risks outside of company guidelines.
  • Works closely with commercial field underwriting department.
  • Participates in ongoing learning and technical development.
