About The Position

Join us as we open our NEW Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program in vibrant Somerset County, New Jersey. The YMCA is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. With a 150-year-old history, Greater Somerset County YMCA (GSCY) is a pillar of the community and has seven locations across three counties, which collectively serve upwards of 30,000 individuals. GSCY has 100 full-time and 950 part-time employees along with operating revenues to $22+ million. We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Family Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping families in need and a commitment to making a positive impact in their lives. In this role, you will work closely with families to provide support, resources, and advocacy to help them achieve their goals and improve their well-being.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work or related field
  • Experience working with families in crisis
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to empathize with diverse populations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with community resources and social service systems

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in a second language preferred
  • Certification in family support or counseling
  • Flexibility and willingness to work a varied schedule

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to identify families' needs and goals
  • Develop individualized support plans and provide regular follow-up to monitor progress
  • Link families to community resources and provide advocacy and support to access services
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
  • Facilitate support groups and provide education on various topics related to family support
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation
