About The Position

BGC Okanagan is hiring a full-time, Family Support Worker for our Foster Parent Support Program at Vernon Club. The Family Support Worker provides direct support to caregivers and families, helping them build skills and access resources that strengthen family functioning and promote the well-being of young people. This role involves crisis intervention, advocacy, skill development, and connecting families with community services. Family Support Workers collaborate closely with caregivers to develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans, while offering ongoing guidance, practical assistance, and emotional support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related human / social service field.
  • One (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s licence and reliable vehicle with the appropriate liability insurance
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check
  • Eligible applicants include: Canadian citizens, permanent residents and refugees in Canada with legal status.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers information relevant to the client’s problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting with caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires. Assesses the information gathered to identify client problems, needs and risks. Develops and implements a service plan within program guidelines.
  • Provides ongoing support, guidance, and problem-solving to clients and families in individual or group settings, using program-approved approaches to address identified needs, risks, and family functioning concerns.
  • Delivers timely, solution-focused intervention to prevent placement breakdowns and provides on-call support during family crises or investigations.
  • Collaborates with the integrated case management team to develop, review, and evaluate client service plans, and participates regularly in case management meetings to report on client progress and activities.
  • Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
  • Provides parenting skill building to clients on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behavior management.
  • Provides participants with skill building through individual and group work such as problem solving and healthy communication.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to clients. Including advocating for caregiver relief.
  • Plan and conduct group educational sessions on topics related to participants issues.
  • Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Accompany clients to meetings and appointments as required.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor and regulatory bodies.
