About The Position

Professional Services Group is a community-based social services organization that supports at-risk families through dynamic, innovative, and culturally responsive programming. The Family Safety Specialist works in the In-Home Safety Services program with families referred by the Winnebago County Human Services Department. The program aims to maintain children’s safety in homes where they may be at risk of removal because of abuse or neglect, and to support families undergoing reunification.

The role works with families on concerns including safety, the parent-child relationship, parenting, household management, nutrition, stable housing, accessing services, education, employment, medical and mental health needs, and substance abuse issues. The position is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with local travel throughout Winnebago County and surrounding areas to meet families in their homes or other community spaces. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position requiring one evening shift each week.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
• Reliable transportation on a daily basis.
• Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

• Interview and evaluate clients to complete intake for the Safety Services and Mobile Response programs.
• Analyze client situations, capabilities, and problems to determine services needed to address safety threats.
• Evaluate situations and determine appropriate responses to de-escalate crises involving youth and families.
• Conduct face-to-face contact and home visits to ensure safety and cooperation with safety plans.
• Formulate, implement, evaluate, and review family safety and/or crisis plans.
• Mentor families in accordance with their safety and/or crisis plans.
• Provide parenting education, support, and advocacy through individual, family, and/or group work.
• Safely transport clients as needed.
