About The Position

The Family Practice Physician provides comprehensive physician services within the scope of privileges granted by the Military Treatment Facility (MTF). This role involves guiding and instructing other healthcare professionals, conducting patient examinations, diagnosing conditions, administering treatments, and prescribing medications. The physician will deliver preventive care, health maintenance services, and patient education, including annual physicals and promotion of healthy behaviors. Ordering diagnostic tests and referring patients to appropriate healthcare providers are also key responsibilities. The role requires technical proficiency in supervising and teaching medical staff, conducting educational lectures, and participating in in-service training for clinic team members, all while adhering to professional standards. The Family Practice Physician performs primary care exams for patients from neonatal to geriatric age groups, including various administrative exams such as Physical Readiness Test (PRT) waivers, Preventive Health Assessments (PHA), Sea Duty/Operational Screening exams, School and Sports physicals, Pap smears, and well-woman exams. They will recommend Sick-in-Quarters (SIQ) status or duty modifications for active-duty personnel as per MTF guidelines. The physician will diagnose and treat urgent and non-urgent illnesses and injuries affecting any organ or system in patients across all age ranges, and prescribe medications as needed. Management of referrals will follow MTF policies and protocols, with all referrals documented in the patient's medical record and the MTF's automated data systems. The role includes providing initial response to medical emergencies within the clinic until relieved by the Medical Officer of the Day and identifying cases that exceed MTF capabilities, coordinating emergent transportation to suitable medical facilities.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
Minimum of 3 years in a Family Practice setting within the past 5 years.
Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. state.
Board eligibility required; board certification preferred. Acceptable boards include the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Family Practice, American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are mandatory.

Orders diagnostic tests as appropriate and refers or consults with relevant healthcare providers or resources as needed.
Demonstrates technical proficiency in supervising and teaching medical staff, conducting educational lectures, and participating in in-service training for clinic team members, adhering to professional standards.
Performs primary care exams for patients from neonatal to geriatric age groups.
Administers both primary care and administrative exams, such as Physical Readiness Test (PRT) waivers, Preventive Health Assessments (PHA), Sea Duty/Operational Screening exams, School and Sports physicals, Pap smears, and well-woman exams.
Recommends Sick-in-Quarters (SIQ) status or duty modifications for active-duty personnel as per MTF guidelines.
