About The Position

Dalhousie’s Student Health & Wellness Centre is seeking a Family Physician to provide Locum coverage from January 4th to 8th, 2027. The role involves the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness. The physician will work with other providers in the clinic to provide cross coverage and same-day access. This position utilizes an electronic medical record (EMR) and requires recording all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR accessible to all collaborating team members. The Dalhousie’s Student Health & Wellness Centre is located in central Halifax and is seeking a physician to join their team as the primary health care provider for an existing patient roster of community patients, in addition to offering select student appointments for dedicated primary health care. The Centre is committed to providing quality primary and mental health care services to promote and enhance both community and student patients’ health. The physician will work collaboratively with the Centre's interprofessional team of 15 family physicians, 2 family practice OB physicians, a nurse manager and 3 registered nurses, a psychiatrist, 9 counsellors and health promotion staff. The clinical team is supported by experienced administrative staff who manage scheduling, reception, referrals, nursing office duties, along with all billing and health records functions.

Requirements

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness

Benefits

  • Guaranteed daily minimum income of $1,200 for family physicians ($600 or half-day)
  • Additional shadow billings if above amount is exceeded
  • Accommodations up to $300 per night
  • Travel expenses (including air fare up to $1,500)
  • Travel time up to 10 hours per week
