About The Position

The job of Family Outreach Associate is done for the purpose/s of aiding students, families, and district staff in areas of communication, documentation, and resource identification for academic, attendance, social, physical, emotional, and adaptive problems associated with functions involving students in schools and the educational process.

Requirements

  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents and speak clearly; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes stages of child growth and development, interpersonal skills, and experience working with other agencies.
  • Skills to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques and developing interpersonal relationships with pupils, parents, teachers, staff and the public, outstanding verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Problem solving with data requires analysis based on curriculum standards and organizational objectives; problem solving with equipment is limited.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include using appropriate teaching techniques; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working with frequent interruptions; assessing students’ abilities and instructional programs; and working with other teachers to promote interdisciplinary studies.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • May be required to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided
  • Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force
  • Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment
  • Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work
  • Ability to move to other work locations
  • Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and the use of advanced technology
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic)
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
  • Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress
  • Must be on call as a regular part of the job
  • Applicants must submit official transcripts, three professional references with at least one supervisory reference and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
  • As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check.
  • The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • As part of the pre-employment process, candidates will be required to submit TB test results and complete designated employment tasks.

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or sociology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison between school, home and community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and developing solutions.
  • Educates the parents about the educational problems being encountered by their child for the purpose of increasing the parents’ knowledge of and use of appropriate resources.
  • Engages students in their home environment for the purpose of assessing the need for academic and behavioral interventions for at-risk students.
  • Maintains student records for the purpose of providing accurate and up-to-date information to be used in targeting interventions for students and providing a clear document trail.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g. Intervention, staff, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Performs home visits for the purpose of gathering pertinent information on students’ backgrounds and behaviors.
  • Completes social history assessments as a part of student intervention teams.
  • Represents the school district for the purpose of communicating and coordinating between home, school and outside agencies in cases involving foster home children, disadvantaged student cases and other cases assigned and/or appropriate.
  • Supports communication and documentation (e.g. attendance, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the educational process for students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
  • Verifies correct residence (e.g. in-person home visits) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the district’s appropriate school zoning codes.
