About The Position

Experienced, detail-driven, and ready to do work that matters? Join McIlveen Family Law. Our clients come to us during some of the most important moments of their lives. As a paralegal on our family law team, you'll work shoulder to shoulder with our attorneys to keep complex litigation moving — drafting, organizing, and managing the details that lead to great outcomes. No two days look the same, and your work directly shapes how smoothly our cases run. In return, we invest in you — with strong benefits, paid professional development, and unlimited paid time off — because we know our team is the reason our clients are in good hands.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of family law experience and 2+ years of complex litigation experience, with the judgment to produce accurate legal documents with minimal supervision.
  • An Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies.
  • NALA or NC Paralegal Certification and a Notary commission.
  • The ability to transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and reports from rough draft or dictation at 70 wpm.
  • Sharp organizational skills — you can juggle competing priorities and hit deadlines without missing a beat.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the courtesy and tact to work effectively across a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff.
  • Solid proofreading and editing instincts (grammar, punctuation, spelling) and comfort with basic calculations on forms and documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Flexibility for the occasional stretch beyond 40 hours or irregular hours when a case demands it.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery, equitable distribution and financial affidavits, correspondence, and memoranda — from written drafts and dictation.
  • Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, client meetings, phone conferences, and mediations using our master calendar and deadline-reminder systems.
  • Open, maintain, and close client files; run conflict checks; and coordinate new matters in our document management system.
  • Support trial preparation by identifying documents for production in discovery, assisting with witness preparation, and building trial notebooks.
  • Be a welcoming first point of contact for clients and visitors by phone, email, and in person — always protecting the confidentiality of the attorney-client relationship.
  • Keep billing on track — process expense reports, proof billing sheets, and review and edit bills.
  • Collaborate with our FAST team (ND specialists, duplication, court filing, paralegals, and staff attorneys) and pitch in on reception and admin coverage when the team needs it.

  • Unlimited paid time off
  • paid holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Company paid BCBS health and dental insurance
  • HSA and FSA options — including a health FSA and a child-care FSA
