About The Position

The Family Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in building trusting, respectful relationships with families while fostering strong partnerships in the community. This position is dedicated to supporting family engagement by connecting families with resources, encouraging participation, and promoting positive outcomes for children and their caregivers. This position reports to the assigned Center Director.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Social Work or related field required and/or achieve Family Development Credential within 18 months of hiring.
  • Ability to problem solve and work in a team environment.
  • Exemplifies cultural humility and sensitivity.

  • Proficient use of technology.
  • Ability to implement Head Start Performance Standards, Daycare Licensing Minimum Standards according to job description.
  • Ability to work independently to produce measureable family outcomes.
  • Complete and pass ABI/FBI background check.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with parents and guardians of enrolled children as the foundation of effective family engagement.
  • Develop meaningful connections within the community by building new partnerships and strengthening existing resources to better support families.
  • Partner with families to identify and establish personal and/or family goals that support growth and self-sufficiency.
  • Develop and maintain an effective tracking system to support time management and ensure responsibilities and expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with families to complete the Family Outcome Framework that reflects their strengths and needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate School Readiness Transition Meeting for parents.
  • Maintain ongoing monitoring of attendance and conduct timely follow-up with families to address barriers and promote regular participation.
  • Engage and support medical and dental Providers/community partners as they visit and provide on-site screenings and/or assessments on enrolled children.
  • Maintain communication with the Policy Council representative to ensure consistent meeting attendance and conduct follow-up when two meetings are missed.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to ensure parent orientation is effectively delivered at the beginning of the program year.
  • Work with families within 30 calendar days of child’s enrollment to determine whether each child has an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health care and document results in ChildPlus.
  • Complete all required health mandates screenings within 45 days of child’s enrollment and document completion in ChildPlus.
  • Work with families within first 90 days of enrollment to obtain determination as to whether or not enrolled child is up-to-date on scheduled preventive medical or oral health care.
  • Document all interaction with families on working to obtain 90 –day Physical and Dental documentation.
  • Ensure classrooms have copies of In-Kind forms, follow-up with families regarding contributions, and verify and enter monthly In-Kind submissions in ChildPlus for accuracy.
  • Maintain timely and accurate entry of required PIR data relate to content-specific tasks in ChildPlus.
  • Conduct recruitment of eligible children and families while documenting and accounting for outreach efforts in the community.
  • Assist in meeting classroom ratio as needed when requested by Supervisor.
  • Support and demonstrate an understanding of the agency’s vision, mission, and values when engaging with children, families, and community.
  • Commit to maintaining a healthy work environment that allows other individuals around to devote their full attention and best efforts to the job.
  • Provide timely, efficient, and responsive results while effectively managing the demands of a fast-paced work environment.
  • Reference policies and procedures to implement services in a timely manner and accurately.
  • Due to independence of accomplishing expectations in this position, a high level of accountability and integrity is required.
  • Request to participate in no-cost to reasonable Professional Development opportunities (remotely or in person) during the school year for professional growth.
  • Other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the FES position.
