About The Position

The fair housing specialist is responsible for engaging with potential clients including starting the intake process, conducting research, and other functions assigned by the Executive Director. This role is with a private, nonprofit civil rights/fair housing organization founded in 2011, dedicated to ensuring equal housing opportunities by eliminating housing discrimination through advocacy, enforcement, education, and outreach.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and possess good analytical, problem solving, and writing skills with strong attention to detail
Demonstrate the ability to recruit and manage volunteers
Must be organized, thorough, accurate and possess proficiency with computer and related needs
Possess good teamwork skills and the ability to work with a diverse population
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong written and verbal skills

Nice To Haves

Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Responsibilities

Collect the necessary information to complete the initial client intake screen
Answer general questions from renters/homeowners and discuss agency services with potential clients via phone, in person and email
Refer potential clients that are outside of organization service offerings to other organizations that could help as necessary
Assist housing counseling team to ensure the intake process is update and efficient; prepare and submit data to be included in reports
Network with other service providers to strengthen services and referrals
Stay current with service offerings; work with external attorneys with needed
Represent the organization at external meetings, events, etc; participate in staff training; remain informed of changes in regulations, statutes, ordinances etc.
Safeguard client security and confidentiality
Other duties as assigned
