The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the safety and well-being of children and families through comprehensive child welfare and juvenile justice services, alongside community supports. ACS manages community-based services, foster care, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. Their child protection staff address allegations of child maltreatment, and in juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and community programs for youth. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides essential legal representation and advice to the Commissioner and all ACS divisions. OGC proactively identifies legal vulnerabilities, collaborates with divisions to ensure compliance with legal mandates, and works closely with the NYC Law Department to mitigate risk and defend against litigation. The Fair Hearings & Compliance Unit (FHCU) within OGC is seeking an Agency Attorney to represent the Commissioner of ACS in administrative hearings and Article 78 proceedings. This role involves representing ACS in matters concerning indicated reports of child neglect, adoption subsidy and kinship guardianship payments, foster care rates and services, and other related issues before New York State tribunals and Courts. The attorney will prepare witnesses, evidence, and engage in trial-related initiatives.
