About The Position

The Program Director, Nursing is a 12-month, campus-based, faculty academic program administrator (APA) position responsible for providing academic and operational leadership, management, and coordination for the undergraduate Entry-Into-Practice (EIP) degree program and associated faculty and budget. This role ensures adherence to Stevenson University and Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) policies. The Program Director is a member of the Nursing Unit Leadership Team and supports accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and compliance with state requirements (Maryland Board of Nursing, MBON) through a culture of assessment, continuous quality improvement, and adherence to accreditation standards for data management. Key responsibilities include collaborating on student recruitment, retention, and placement; maintaining and evaluating curriculum for accreditation and NCLEX success; program assessment; and university engagement. The role also encompasses all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member, with a teaching load of 6-9 contact hours per academic year. Rank and title are determined by education and experience. The Program Director works collaboratively within the Nursing Unit to support overall operations and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing required.
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in nursing practice.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in nursing education and/or academic program administration.
  • Experience with accreditation processes (CCNE) and state board of nursing regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment in nursing education.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology for teaching and administrative purposes, including learning management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Academic Program Administrator (APA) for the CCNE-accredited EIP nursing program.
  • Act as an active and contributing member of the Nursing Unit Leadership Team and the SNHP Leadership Team.
  • Represent the EIP Nursing Program to students, parents, professional organizations, external partners, and other relevant constituencies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries, concerns, and issues related to the EIP Nursing Program.
  • Perform academic administrative duties including class scheduling, supporting student recruitment, advising, and retention.
  • Regularly assess program quality and effectiveness and facilitate curriculum development and implementation.
  • Collaborate with campus constituencies to ensure operational alignment and achievement of shared goals.
  • Develop articulation agreements and partnerships.
  • Engage in collaborative pursuits and forge professional relationships to support partnerships and opportunities.
  • Manage the program’s budget.
  • Perform personnel-related responsibilities including hiring, onboarding, supervising, managing, mentoring, and evaluating program faculty.
  • Ensure continued nursing program accreditation by CCNE and compliance with Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) regulations, including required reporting.
  • Manage the department’s operating budget in consultation with the Chief Nurse Administrator and the Dean, SNHP.
  • Participate in new student recruitment initiatives, including open houses, contacting visitors, announcing program news, and revising recruiting materials.
  • Collaborate with program staff to support student progression decisions and notifications.
  • Hold regular program meetings throughout the academic year.
  • Attend and participate in all School of Nursing and Health Professions faculty/staff, BSNHP Leadership Team, Nursing Unit Leadership Team, and Nursing Unit Working Group meetings.
  • Support strategic and annual initiatives as assigned.
  • Engage in and support grant-writing and other scholarly pursuits.
  • Maintain relationships with community of interest partners.
  • Serve as the Stevenson University representative on external advisory boards as requested.
  • Annually review and revise the college catalog and nursing student guide.
  • Engage in instructional activity totaling 6-9 contact hours per academic year in the EIP Nursing program.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning and responding to evaluations.
  • Prepare and regularly update teaching materials.
  • Confer with students on course materials and direct individual and group studies.
  • Prepare assignments, grade students’ work, and provide timely feedback.
  • Utilize the Blackboard Course Management System for all Stevenson University courses.
  • Write and/or update syllabi each semester or term.
  • Respond to emails, submit grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports.
  • Alert appropriate university personnel to student concerns in a timely manner.
  • Provide feedback to students via assignments, exams, and other forms of learning assessment.
  • Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week).
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses to ensure alignment with regulatory and accreditation requirements and support student outcomes.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the Program, Nursing Unit, School, and University.
  • Maintain independent scholarly or applied projects to enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Attend professional conferences, workshops, or meetings to maintain currency in nursing leadership and/or academic interests.
  • Pursue internal and external funding to support scholarly activity.
  • Offer quality advising services to students.
  • Serve on at least one Nursing Unit Standard Working Group.
  • Contribute to and participate in student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts.
  • Contribute to and participate in ongoing departmental activities, such as curriculum development and assessment.
  • Attend departmental/program/unit meetings.
  • Contribute to and participate in the planning and coordination of nursing events.
  • Establish professional relationships to generate clinical placement opportunities for nursing students.
  • Serve on University, School, and Departmental committees.
  • Attend all convocations, including commencement exercises and the nursing pinning ceremony.
  • Attend all University Faculty, Faculty/Staff, and relevant academic Department/Nursing Unit/School meetings.
  • Engage and participate in the life and work of the Nursing Unit, School of Nursing and Health Professions, and Stevenson University.
  • Participate in Department, School, and University assessment activities.
  • Mentor and advise new faculty, including leading New Nursing Faculty Orientation.
  • Serve on Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee(s) of all EIP full-time faculty.
