About The Position

The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking to hire an open rank faculty member (assistant, associate, or full professor) to enhance its research leadership in Cybersecurity. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional researcher and educator contributing to the theory and practice of cybersecurity. While all areas of cybersecurity are welcome, the school has a particular interest in candidates whose research integrates technical aspects (e.g., systems/network security, applied cryptography, security informatics) with human factors (e.g., policy, governance, usable security, AI security, cyber risk management, international policy, law, privacy, accessible security). The successful applicant will join a vibrant, campus-wide cybersecurity community with opportunities for collaboration and joint appointments across various schools and research centers, including the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR) and the Indiana University Applied Research Center (ARC). The Luddy School offers a supportive environment for research, teaching, and mentorship, and faculty will contribute to strong academic programs, including interdisciplinary collaborations like the BS in Cybersecurity and Global Policy and the MS in Cybersecurity Risk Management. Qualified faculty may also engage with IU Research and ARC on national security challenges. These 10-month faculty appointments are expected to begin around August 1, 2027, with some flexibility.

Requirements

• Hold a Ph.D. in computer science, informatics, engineering, or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
• Demonstrate a strong record of research productivity.
• Demonstrate potential for (or evidence of) excellence in teaching and service.
• Candidates for associate and full professor positions must demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly leadership and impact appropriate for a senior career level.

• Research that bridges technical cybersecurity (e.g., systems/network security; applied cryptography; security informatics) and human aspects of cybersecurity (e.g., policy or governance; trusted computing; the design of usable and inclusive security and privacy technologies; security and safety of AI systems; cyber risk management; international cybersecurity policy; law and privacy; and accessible security).

Responsibilities

• Develop and/or maintain a robust research portfolio, including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding.
• Conduct cutting-edge research as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chairperson.
• Provide service within the department, school, and university.
• Actively engage with the profession and/or the community.
• Work on the Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community.
