About The Position

Principal faculty in the PA program are primarily responsible for the instruction of the curriculum, the assessment of student learning, and supporting the program. Faculty also advance the mission of the institution through their work in the areas of research and scholarly activities and citizenship in accordance with the parameters of the Faculty Handbook. The faculty consists of all individuals in the employ of Northeast College holding academic rank and engaged in instructional, scholarly and professional, or academic service activities for the College. These activities include, but are not limited to: Laboratory, classroom, and online instruction, Course and curriculum development, Research, Participation in student advising, Enrollment management functions, and College governance and Service to one’s profession. Northeast College of Health Sciences has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Northeast College of Health Sciences anticipates matriculating its first class in September 2026, pending achieving Accreditation - Provisional status at the April 2026 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation - Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. Requirements

  • Must hold a terminal degree in their field, preferably as a PA, MD, or DO.
  • If a PA, graduate from an ARC-PA accredited PA program.
  • If a PA, current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • If an MD or DO, current ABMS or AOA board certification or eligibility.
  • If a PA, MD, or DO, current licensure or eligibility for licensure in New York.
  • Must be able to effectively advocate for the Physician Assistant Studies program and PA profession.
  • Must have a strong commitment to the development and success of the Northeast College PA Program.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for teaching graduate medical education students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to function in a team.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years full-time PA or other clinical education teaching experience, preferred.
  • If a PA, MD, or DO, minimum five years of full-time clinical practice experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, reviewing and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals and competencies of the program
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program
  • Providing student instruction
  • Evaluating student performance
  • Academic counseling of students
  • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
  • Evaluating the program
  • Planning and presenting course material
  • Establishing course objectives and requirements and communicating them to students
  • Selecting and ordering texts and supplemental materials
  • Preparing, administering and grading papers and examinations
  • Assigning grades without discrimination, in accordance with the nondiscrimination policy as it appears in the College catalog
  • Providing students with appropriate, current course material consistent with the overall curriculum
  • Assuring student comprehension and competency
  • Providing unbiased outcome assessments
  • Encourage student participation and interaction
  • Be sensitive to class response
  • Deal with students ethically
  • Allot ample time for consultation
  • Seek a professional rapport with student
  • Motivate and academically challenge students
  • Be dedicated to subject material and the teaching profession

  • Academically assist, advise and counsel students regarding their work in classes
  • Recognize when a student requires professional assistance with problems of a personal or academic nature so that professional help can be obtained
  • Basic science or clinical research
  • Authorship of a book or journal article
  • Scholarly media productions within one’s area of expertise
  • Continuing medical education presentations
  • Lend talents to benefit the College community, the professional and/or academic community, and the local community
  • Provide written and oral reports to the Program Director, Physician Assistant Studies as requested
  • Annual performance evaluation by the Program Director, Physician Assistant Studies
