About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The anticipated start date of the position is December 1, 2026, or another mutually agreed upon date in 2026 or 2027. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field and a record of relevant, internationally-recognized research. They will have the pedagogic ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and a desire to inspire new generations of scientists. The candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program, with global impact, funded by Canadian and international agencies (i.e., NSERC, CFI, etc.), which may lead to industrial collaborations. Candidates with interests in organic chemistry, including synthesis, organometallics, bioorganic chemistry, polymers, green chemistry, and mechanistic studies, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to devote significant portions of their time to both research and teaching within the Department. They will also be expected to participate in service.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • A record of relevant, internationally-recognized research.
  • Pedagogic ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Evidence of a consistent record of high quality, funded research, or strong evidence of the ability to attract funding for such.
  • Evidence for research quality will include a record of submission and acceptance of conference presentations, high-quality peer-reviewed journal publications and/or patents.
  • Submit a detailed research proposal which demonstrates their potential to establish an independent research career.
  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to lecture, examine, and develop course materials as needed for established and new courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver courses at the graduate level.
