About The Position

The Organic Chemistry Manufacturing department is responsible for delivering premier fluorescent probes and reagents that enable our customers to advance scientific discovery through cellular labeling and detection. Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in Organic Chemistry to join our manufacturing team in Eugene. The successful candidate will have experience in organic synthesis in a manufacturing or academic laboratory. The candidate must be capable of performing bench science activities in accordance with established synthesis procedures and of developing a personal schedule to complete assigned work on time. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry required.
• Small molecule synthesis skills, demonstrated through experience in setup and monitoring of controlled reaction conditions and isolation, purification, and characterization of organic compounds.
• Receptive to mentoring and feedback, with a desire and motivation to continuously grow and develop both chemistry and leadership skills.
• Adaptable, eager learner, able to think critically, proactively solve problems, and maintain composure in stressful or ambiguous situations.
• Effective people skills in a team-centered work environment and the ability to communicate constructively with peers and leadership.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to evaluate, prioritize, and complete multiple projects while responding to changing priorities and due dates.
• Solid technical writing skills, with an ability to document synthetic procedures accurately and succinctly.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screen.

Nice To Haves

• 1+ years of applicable experience in organic synthesis preferred.
• Applicable experience in organic synthesis may be from work in a manufacturing and/or academic research laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety policies and guidelines related to the operation of process equipment, chemical handling, and waste disposal.
• Perform multi-step organic synthesis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Deliver products that meet the required quality standards, on time, and in the quantity ordered.
• Complete work under the close supervision of senior scientists, follow manufacturing process instructions accurately, and follow all quality system requirements.
• Recognize and call out manufacturing problems and process failures that prevent expected results.
• Collaborate with senior staff to plan and implement corrections to manufacturing and/or testing processes.
• Keep a clear, complete, and exact account of all manufacturing work using Master Batch Records, Work Instructions, and other required documentation.
• May cross-train in other manufacturing departments (finished goods manufacturing, particles and quantum dot chemistry, and protein/dye conjugation chemistry) to develop the ability to flex between departments as needed.
• Occasionally perform repetitive tasks such as aliquoting reagents, vialing, and labeling of products.
• Complete all assigned tasks daily, which may require overtime and flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional weekends, based on fluctuations in customer demand.
