About The Position

Reporting to the Dean of Health Sciences, the incumbent will teach discipline-specific courses as needed using a variety of methodologies. Responsibilities will include course preparation and instruction; curriculum development; participation in the college community and continued professional growth activities; and creative program building based on needs assessment and collaboration with other faculty. May be asked to teach other courses in disciplines in which they are credentialed. Besides traditional class structuring, the college is also attempting to meet the varying needs of our students by offering weekend, year-round, and compressed courses of instruction and services. Since service to our students is our highest priority, instructors can expect to participate in innovative methods, and assignments may be multi-campus and/or at clinical agency locations, with the possibility of interactive, online, day, evening, and/or weekend classes. The general expectation is that full-time faculty serve as provisional faculty for a period of three years prior to being reviewed for continuing status. The determination of faculty status is, however, ultimately at the discretion of the Yavapai College District Governing Board and the College President as the Board’s designee.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona (Arizona State Board of Nursing): AZBN Instructor Guidelines PDF
Two (2) years of full-time work experience related to the program(s) being taught, including a minimum of one (1) year of related full-time work experience within the past five (5) years.
In lieu of one (1) year of recent full-time experience: Two (2) years of postsecondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the past five (5) years may be considered.
“Two years of postsecondary teaching” means: Eight (8) semesters of part-time teaching or Four (4) semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution.
Appropriate occupational experience includes: Developing a nursing plan of care for patients including goals and priorities derived from nursing diagnoses.
Directly administering nursing care or supervising RNs, LPNs, Nursing Assistants, and unlicensed caregivers in giving care.
Evaluating nursing care.

Responsibilities

Prepare for and facilitate learning in the assigned courses according to the College’s core values.
Establish a professional and safe learning environment.
Set the classroom tone by modeling appropriate workplace skills and behavior.
Maintain a positive climate for learning through effective classroom management and enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct.
Meet student learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and assessments.
Maintain student records and documentation.
Submit grades within the expected timeframe.
Provide timely verbal and written feedback to students to ensure continued growth and development.
Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of the curriculum.
Collaborate with College staff to recruit students.
Assist with student recruitment by participating in college recruitment events, partnering with recruitment staff, maintaining relationships with alumni, and proactively promoting the College and its services.
Collaborate with College staff to retain students and help them be successful.
Work with Student Services to provide guidance to students.
Assist in advising students regarding course enrollment, program and course content, lifelong learning, and other program-related subjects.
Work with internal customers, including student services staff, adjunct faculty, and other College staff, to provide consistent, effective learning and support for students.
Stay current with internal and external changes and provide input by participating in college meetings and activities.
Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners.
Participate in external meetings and activities.
Actively participate in professional growth activities such as networking and sharing with faculty across the College and professional organizations; accepting and incorporating guidance and support from peers and supervisors; staying up-to-date with technology trends; maintaining occupational competencies; staying current in the field; and maintaining a professional development plan.
Assist with mentoring other full-time and adjunct faculty.
Maintain equipment and supplies for the classroom and labs as necessary to support the assigned program area and future industry trends.
Work with the supervisor to identify alternative funding sources as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
