About The Position

Charleston Southern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in its Master of Science in Clinical Counseling program. Rank may be Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The faculty member will also serve as Program Director for the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, with the first doctoral cohort planned for Fall 2027. The role combines teaching, advising, supervision, scholarship, service, and program development with academic and administrative leadership of the doctoral program. The Program Director will receive release time from faculty responsibilities to administer the doctoral program, consistent with the 2024 CACREP Standards, and will lead it through launch, its first cohort, and initial accreditation. The Master of Science in Clinical Counseling is a CACREP-accredited, 60-credit graduate program that prepares students for professional practice as Licensed Professional Counselors. Delivered primarily online with required synchronous interaction, the program emphasizes clinical competence, professional identity, client-centered care, leadership, and advancement of the mental health profession in a Christian educational environment. Its mission is to educate compassionate and highly motivated individuals who provide client-centered care, act as agents of change, serve as community leaders, and advance the mental health profession; it aims to prepare clinicians who are clinically competent and biblically sound. The successful candidate will provide overall academic leadership for the Ph.D. program. Duties include leading institutional approval and accreditation processes, establishing doctoral policies and research mentoring structures, coordinating practicum and internship experiences, maintaining program documentation and standards alignment, coordinating scheduling and faculty assignments, monitoring student and program outcomes, and leading recruitment and onboarding of the inaugural cohort. The Program Director will collaborate with the Clinical Counseling Program Director and other university personnel, represent the doctoral program to internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to its strategic planning and long-term growth. Faculty members are expected to support Charleston Southern University’s Christian mission and appropriately integrate faith into teaching, mentoring, scholarship, service, and professional responsibilities. Applicants should submit a letter of interest addressing the qualifications and vision for launching and leading the Ph.D. program, a curriculum vitae, statements on Christian faith and faith integration and on teaching and supervision philosophy, unofficial graduate transcripts, and contact information for three professional references. Official transcripts are required upon hire.
