About The Position

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) seeks an energetic and innovative counseling faculty member for its Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling. The Master of Science in Counseling program offers professional counseling, school counseling, and dual concentrations that prepare students for the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) licensure, or both. The department also offers an undergraduate Minor in Counseling and Social Change. The successful candidate will bring a background in counseling and/or school counseling, with particular interest or practice in postmodern counseling emphasizing equity, social justice, restorative justice, and culturally sustaining approaches. The candidate will prepare graduate students to work effectively with children, adolescents, adults, families, and communities in diverse educational, clinical, and community settings. Teaching and supervision should reflect culturally responsive, relational, systemic, developmental, strengths-based, evidence-informed, and contextually grounded approaches. The faculty member will teach graduate counseling courses and provide clinical, practicum, internship, and/or fieldwork supervision; mentor graduate students; participate in curriculum and program development; maintain an active scholarly and professional agenda appropriate to tenure and promotion; and contribute service to the department, college, university, profession, and surrounding communities. Teaching may include courses in clinical mental health counseling and/or school counseling at the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses, delivered in person, hybrid, and/or online according to program needs. The faculty member may also contribute to clinical training opportunities and supervision in a university-based counseling center or comparable environment. The position requires an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field by the time of appointment, as well as graduate-level preparation and professional experience sufficient to teach master's-level counseling courses. Candidates must have demonstrated counseling-related professional experience, knowledge of relevant ethical and professional standards, evidence of or potential for effective graduate teaching and mentoring and scholarly activity, and the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds. Professional credentials or licensure from California or another state may be held, but the candidate's preparation must support eligibility for applicable California credentialing and/or licensure. Preference is given to candidates with professional or clinical mental health licensure and/or a school counseling credential, particularly California credentials or eligibility to obtain them. Candidates who currently qualify, or can reasonably qualify, to provide clinical supervision to graduate counseling trainees are of particular interest. The position is tenure-track and may be filled at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. Salary is commensurate with experience. Formal review begins November 2, 2026, and continues until the position is filled.
