About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to teach Chemistry as part-time faculty members at its Rockville, Germantown, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses. The college accepts applications on a continuous basis, with reviews based on student enrollment needs. Part-time faculty are expected to exhibit professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to educate in an engaging manner. During the academic year, part-time faculty may teach up to 11.5 ESH per semester and 23 ESH per academic year. During the summer, they may teach up to 10 ESH for both sessions combined.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related chemistry discipline.
Experience teaching introductory chemistry, general chemistry, or organic chemistry.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment.
Willingness to contribute to the College's strategic plan of inclusion.
Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location.
Eligibility to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Nice To Haves

Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related chemistry discipline.
Experience teaching introductory chemistry, general chemistry, or organic chemistry lectures and laboratories at the college level.
Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).

Responsibilities

Teach assigned lecture, discussion and/or laboratory courses in chemistry, which may include introductory chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, or chemistry for non-majors.
Teach a varied schedule of courses, potentially including daytime, evening, weekend, and/or accelerated sections, with opportunities for summer session classes.
Follow guidelines from department course coordinators to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple course sections.
Administer, grade, and provide timely feedback to students to monitor their mastery and progress.
Meet established deadlines for submitting student mid-term and final course grades.
