About The Position

Reporting to the Academic Division Chair, the FT Faculty, Computer Science is responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in Computer Information Systems (CIS), Computer Science (CS), and Cyber Operations (CSC) degree programs. This role involves teaching up to 15 credit hours per semester, maintaining professional scholarship, advising students, and effectively managing the classroom environment. The faculty member will develop, maintain, and submit accurate records, conduct active research, and possess the ability to develop courses in computer science, cyber operations, and AI, including ethical and practical applications of generative AI tools. Demonstrated interest or expertise in ethical and equitable AI use in cyber operations, with a focus on fairness, transparency, and accountability, is also required. Participation in course and curriculum development, mentoring part-time faculty and students, and providing service to the department, college, and university are key aspects of the position. If applicable, the role may include Program Coordinator duties such as organizing meetings, assessing program needs, making curriculum revision recommendations, coordinating activities to enhance teaching and learning, serving as the primary academic advisor, disseminating information about opportunities, composing strategic and operational plans, submitting annual assessment reports, advising for Freshman Orientation summer programs, and assuring submission of book orders. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Master of Computer Science or closely related field. required; Ph.D. preferred.
Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and a strong record of scholarly activity in high quality peer-reviewed scholarly journals and conferences.
Must possess the minimum credential standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which normally include at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justifications.

Strong oral and written presentation skills.
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.

Nice To Haves

Ph.D. preferred.
Computer architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Programming, operating systems, and networking expertise/networking/Cyber security are preferred.
Conducting research preferred

Responsibilities

Teaching all levels of undergraduate Computer Science (CS), Computer Information Systems (CIS), and Cyber Operations (CSC) courses (teaching load is up to 15 credit hours per semester; may have release time to conduct research or other duties)
Maintaining professional scholarship
Advising students
Effectively manages the classroom environment
Develops, maintains, and submits accurate, timely and complete records (attendance, assignments, grades, end of course notebooks, etc.)
Conducting active research
Ability to develop courses in computer science, cyber operations, and AI, including ethical and practical applications of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot).
Demonstrated interest or expertise in ethical and equitable AI use in cyber operations, with a focus on fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Participation in course and curriculum development, mentoring part-time faculty and students, as well as providing service to the department, college and the university
Serve the College, the University, and the profession and community as appropriate
As applicable to assignment as an academic Program Coordinator: Regularly organizes, schedules and documents collaboration meetings with other program colleagues to discuss matters related to the students in the applicable program, assess and review the needs of the program (faculty, supplies, instrumentation, etc.), make program curriculum revision recommendations aimed to address current market trends and submit to the Chair of the Department, coordinate activities with colleagues to enhance teaching and the learning process.
Acts as the primary faculty academic advisor for the students in the program.
Disseminates information to students relating to internships and job opportunities, research, seminars, graduate schools, supporting programs, tutoring, etc.
Composes an annual strategic plan and an annual operational plan for the applicable academic program.
Submits an annual assessment report.
Serve as an advisor for Freshman Orientation summer programs.
Assures submission of book orders for all relevant program courses.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
