Stanford University’s Department of Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the junior level, as an Assistant Professor or untenured Associate Professor. Applicants from all areas of computer science are welcome, including theoretical foundations, systems, software, and applications. The department also welcomes research at the frontiers of computer science with other disciplines, including engineering, mathematics, medicine, physical sciences, and social sciences. Greater priority will be given to the overall originality and promise of a candidate’s work than to their area of specialization. Applicants must have completed or be completing a Ph.D. in the advertised field or a closely related field. Candidates must show evidence of the ability to pursue a research program and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will teach courses at both levels and build and lead a team of graduate students conducting Ph.D. research. Applications should include a resume, combined research and teaching statements of 3–5 pages, and the names and email addresses of 3–5 references. Letters of recommendation will be requested through the online portal as soon as an application is submitted. Application review begins December 1, 2026; complete applications are strongly encouraged by that date for full consideration. Applications will continue to be accepted until January 4, 2027. Interviews are expected to begin in the winter term. The expected base pay for the nine-month academic appointment is $144,100–$163,766 for an Assistant Professor and $158,510–$196,803 for an untenured Associate Professor. These ranges exclude summer salary. Compensation will be determined based on factors including experience and qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, and external market pay. For information about compensation and benefits, including housing assistance, applicants may contact the hiring department. Stanford University is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. It welcomes candidates who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. Candidates may discuss in their research and teaching statements how their work and experience will further these values. Stanford provides reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities.
