About The Position

The Facilities Technician is responsible for conducting various maintenance tasks within TARTA facilities. This includes performing minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and structural repairs, as well as HVAC system upkeep, preventive maintenance programs, roof repairs, painting, and vandalism cleanup. The role demands good interpersonal skills for effective communication with TARTA staff and colleagues, meticulous attention to detail to ensure job completion to high standards, and the physical stamina to handle active work shifts. In response to the local community’s renewed focus and support of TARTA, the Board adopted TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase services, invest in capital assets such as new mobility hubs and a zero-emissions bus fleet, and improve customer experience through investments in technology, bus shelters, signage, and customer outreach. This transformation is well underway and powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department, from the leadership team to every front-line team member.

Requirements

Proficiency in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and structural repair techniques.
Familiarity with HVAC systems and their components.
Ability to conduct preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Strong attention to detail to ensure job quality and identify potential hazards or issues.
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with TARTA staff and colleagues.
Physical stamina and work ethic to handle active shifts in TARTA facilities.
Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and emergent needs daily.
Ability to safely operate snow and ice removal equipment, including front-end loaders, plow-equipped vehicles, and related machinery.
Knowledge of proper snow and ice control techniques, materials (salt, brine, etc.), and safety practices.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.
High school diploma or equivalent
Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing conditions.
Required to participate in snow and ice removal operations, which may include extended hours, on-call availability, and emergency response during winter weather events.
Must be able to operate heavy equipment
Maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing
Have reliable transportation

Responsibilities

Conduct minor plumbing repairs, including addressing clogs, leaks, and drainage issues.
Perform minor electrical repairs such as dealing with breakers, switches, and outlets.
Utilize basic carpentry skills for various repair tasks.
Address minor structural damage by repairing doors, windows, locks, and walls.
Demonstrate familiarity with HVAC system operation, including forced air, high-pressure boilers, ventilation fans, and automated controls.
Execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to prevent failures and identify potential issues.
Undertake minor roof repairs as necessary.
Engage in both interior and exterior painting tasks.
Conduct vandalism cleanup activities as required.
Perform snow and ice control activities across TARTA facilities, including snow removal, de-icing, and surface treatment to ensure safe access for employees and the public.
Operate snow removal and maintenance equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, plow trucks, and salt spreaders in a safe and effective manner.
Respond to winter events as needed.
