About The Position

As a Facility Safety Manager with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will play a key role in maintaining safe conditions and building strong safety procedures at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mercer. This position gives you the chance to oversee inspections, guide training, and support essential emergency response operations. Your work helps ensure that safety standards are met, risks are reduced, and staff are prepared for any situation. Requirements

  • One year of professional experience in an organized accident prevention, fire prevention, environmental safety, or security program, and a bachelor’s degree; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must obtain Advanced Safety Certification from the National Safety Council within five years.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Radiological Safety Officer Certification upon hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Lead Renovator Certification upon hire.
  • Must obtain and maintain an Asbestos Supervisor and Building Inspector Certification upon hire.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be a trained firefighter.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Complete weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual safety reports, and participate in required inspections
  • Conduct fire drills, maintain inspection records, oversee fire equipment requirements, and ensure compliance with standards
  • Coordinate sanitation, housekeeping, and pest control programs throughout the facility
  • Maintain safety records, evacuation drill logs, extinguisher testing schedules, inventories, and other required documentation
  • Investigate accidents, lead safety and environmental training, and update fire plans and emergency procedures
  • Oversee recycling, asbestos abatement, hazardous materials programs, and institutional fire investigations
