About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Institutions, operates 13 correctional facilities and works to protect the public while providing a safe, secure, and humane environment for staff and offenders. Roederer Correctional Complex is seeking a Facility Maintenance Supervisor I to perform maintenance duties on the institution’s grounds and determine work assignments for inmate workers assisting with maintenance responsibilities. The position identifies maintenance needs and repairs, handles basic plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance issues, prioritizes and verifies work orders, requisitions tools and supplies, supervises and assists offenders with daily maintenance and repair tasks while maintaining a safe and secure work environment, and tracks tools and parts. The position is on call 24 hours a day and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, requiring compliance with safety procedures. The initial and promotional probationary period is six months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• Three years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience.
• Formal training in one of the listed or related fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience in one of the listed or related fields may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• No special age, licensure, or regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify maintenance needs or repairs and perform basic plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance repairs.
• Prioritize work orders and verify their completion.
• Requisition maintenance tools and supplies.
• Supervise and assist offenders in daily maintenance and repair tasks while maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
• Track the assignment of tools and parts.
• Perform maintenance duties on the institution’s grounds and determine work assignments for inmate workers assisting with maintenance responsibilities.
