About The Position

The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Facility Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Columbia River Correctional Institution. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating, instructing, and training Adults in Custody (AICs) in the operation, maintenance, and repair of facility systems, equipment, and building structures within a correctional environment. You will perform journey-level maintenance and repair work across multiple trades while leading AIC work crews in both skilled and semi-skilled tasks. Work includes maintaining physical plant systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring buildings and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and compliant with established standards. As the Facility Maintenance Specialist, you will provide hands-on instruction, assign and monitor work, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely. This position requires strong technical knowledge across building systems and the ability to communicate expectations clearly while maintaining accountability in a structured environment. You will play a key part in supporting facility operations while also contributing to skill development for AIC workers through practical, supervised work experience.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of general building maintenance experience.
  • Two (2) years of carpentry experience.
  • Two (2) years of electrical experience.
  • Two (2) years of mechanical experience.
  • Two (2) years of painting experience.
  • Two (2) years of HVAC experience.
  • A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Must complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a correctional, institutional, or industrial setting.

  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
