About The Position

The General Services Division (GSD) is seeking a supervisor for its 9-member Facilities Maintenance team. This team is responsible for maintaining the buildings and facilities on the Capitol Complex. The role involves providing leadership and supervision for general maintenance, carpentry, and paint staff. The position ensures efficient and effective resource allocation for a workload scattered across the Capitol Complex and Helena. Key functions include ensuring coverage for facility emergencies (e.g., inoperable doors, leaking roofs, power outages) and monitoring the facility preventative maintenance program to protect infrastructure and offset deferred maintenance. The team frequently coordinates with HVAC, Building Automation, Custodial, and Landscape teams. This position shares collaborative ownership of the overall custodial care of the Capitol Complex with peer supervisors. It also works closely with project management for in-house remodeling and special projects.

Requirements

  • Two-year job-related college or vocational training
  • Two years supervisory experience
  • Five years of experience in the construction and maintenance trades
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise, and implement efficient solutions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of people, and establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive facility maintenance program
  • Ability to address conflict situations with diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to determine priorities in a changing environment and adjust workload accordingly to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to delegate and monitor work assignments
  • Ability to be self-motivated and maintain a positive and pleasant attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and perform successfully in a dynamic environment
  • Completion of a criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision for a dynamic facilities maintenance team
  • Manage the O&M of the Capitol Complex, specifically preventative maintenance and repair of facilities and large buildings within the Complex
  • Ensure your facilities team has the materials and supplies to be successful
  • Recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions, and promote a general safety culture
  • Oversight of integrated building systems and supportive infrastructure
  • Understand the carpentry and painting trades to provide effective leadership and reasonable customer expectations
