About The Position

The Facility Director of Nursing (Site DON) provides on-site clinical and administrative leadership for nursing services at a single Thrive Medical Services correctional facility. This role directly supervises the facility's nursing staff, manages day-to-day nursing operations and scheduling, and ensures care meets NCCHC, NMAC, and facility standards for the incarcerated patient population. The Facility Director of Nursing reports to and coordinates with the Regional Director of Nursing, while working closely with on-site providers, behavioral health, administration, and custody staff.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or RN Diploma required
  • Active, unrestricted, non-probationary Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of professional nursing experience, including supervisory or charge experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, scheduling, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Prior correctional or detention healthcare experience.
  • Specialty certification desired (e.g., CCHP).
  • Familiarity with NCCHC standards and electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise nursing staff, unlicensed assistive personnel, and designated ancillary healthcare staff at the facility.
  • Develop and maintain the facility nursing schedule, ensuring adequate coverage with appropriately skilled personnel on each shift.
  • Onboard, orient, and train facility nursing staff and conduct ongoing in-service education.
  • Serve as the primary nursing point of contact at the facility and escalate regional issues to the Regional Director of Nursing.
  • Oversee daily nursing operations, including sick call, intake screening, medication administration, and chronic care support.
  • Monitor facility healthcare supplies, equipment, and medication management for adequate stock and proper handling.
  • Coordinate patient care and scheduling with on-site providers, behavioral health, dental, and custody staff.
  • Implement facility work structures and processes to meet patient care goals and contract requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of care for all patients at the facility.
  • Support nursing staff in the direct provision of patient care as needed.
  • Communicate with providers, patients, and stakeholders regarding healthcare needs and care plans.
  • Manage patient data and medical records as confidential records.
  • Ensure facility nursing practice conforms to state licensure, accreditation, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Participate in and support the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program at the site level; identify trends or gaps in care.
  • Comply with documentation, confidentiality, infection control, and incident reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to Thrive Medical Services policies, NCCHC standards, NMAC, and applicable laws and regulations.
