About The Position

Performs a variety of duties overseeing and maintaining the Washington Civic Center and provides customer service during facility use. This role involves monitoring buildings, grounds, and equipment, performing basic maintenance, answering inquiries, handling situations that may occur during rental periods, and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and security of the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One or more years of experience in customer service, facility maintenance, recreation, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic safety rules and regulations regarding use of the facility and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in facility maintenance work.
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of facility policy and procedures and keep records as needed.
  • Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations regarding the use of the facility.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of the use and set up of the HVAC, PA, and facility lighting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with a wide variety of ages, groups, and interests.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships exercising tact, courtesy, and firmness with community groups, volunteers, contracted staff, employees, other city departments, and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently demonstrating assertiveness, self-motivation, and decision-making skills for both routine and emergency situations.
  • Work requires the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
  • Physical requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
  • Must have visual acuity to be able to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform extensive reading, operate a computer and other office equipment, determine accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observe general surroundings and activities.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • May be subject to environmental conditions including temperatures, noise, and various cleaning chemicals.
  • May be subject to the final OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens.
  • May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors buildings, grounds, and equipment, and reports needed repairs.
  • Performs basic maintenance of HVAC, PA, and facility lighting.
  • Answers inquiries from customers and the general public during functions.
  • May assist in scheduling events.
  • Handles situations that may occur during rental or reservation periods.
  • Supervises activities performed in and around the facility.
  • Responsible for opening and closing procedures of the facility.
  • Ensures the maintenance, neatness, cleanliness, and safety of the facility, adjacent grounds, and parking lot, including mopping, picking up litter, and emptying trash.
  • Ensures the safety of individuals and security of facilities.
  • Evaluates and takes appropriate action to correct unusual situations including fights, theft, vandalism, behavior problems, and code violations.
  • Provides information and assistance to users of the facility.
  • Educates patrons on rules and regulations.
  • Maintains public safety, health, and welfare.
  • Enforces rules and regulations, city code, and facility rules.
  • Stocks restrooms with paper products and soap.
  • Provides excellent customer service to patrons, vendors, general public, and co-workers.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests and resolves customer complaints as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
