Requirements

  • Completion of a high school level education with attainment of a high school diploma or a State High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) is required.
  • 1 year of work experience in a clerical, customer service or receptionist position, preferably in a healthcare setting is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification and memberships to local organizations such as AAHAM, NAHAM, etc. preferred.
  • 2 years’ work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, responsible for customer service in Patient Access/Patient Administrative Services areas, ensuring a customer-focused, quality-conscious work climate.
  • Focuses on interpersonal skills, data collection, situation assessment, and assisting the team in developing solutions for customer service excellence and hospital financial viability.
  • Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics, verifies insurance benefits and coverage in Epic, provides cost estimates, secures pre-certifications and/or pre-notifications, collects co-pays and deposits, and provides financial assistance.
  • Provides wayfinding to all clinics where Patient Administrative Services provides registration assistance, ensuring patients are navigated safely and efficiently to their appointments.
  • Maintains regulatory and functional knowledge of registration information for timely and accurate reporting/billing, obtains required signatures, and performs clerical duties.
  • Educates patients on insurance coverage, understands hospital and physician billing requirements, and communicates proper procedures to patients.
  • Communicates coverage issues to service areas and works with patients and staff to resolve them.
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of paperwork before filing admissions, contacts physician/clinical staff for incomplete registration paperwork, and distributes admission documents if required.
  • Maintains department scheduling templates for applicable providers in outpatient department locations, ensuring appropriate scheduling utilization.
  • Maintains consistent contact with Care Management and Social Work departments to ensure required information for reimbursement is obtained and pre-admission/pre-certification requirements are followed.
  • Assists supervisor with training new Admitting staff by demonstrating department operating processes and procedures.
