About The Position

The Science Museum of Virginia is hiring two Facilities Technicians for its Northern Virginia Science Center, which is scheduled to open in spring/summer 2027. Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the technician helps maintain smooth facility operations by performing preventive and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting building systems, including HVAC and plumbing. The role also involves setting up equipment for programs and events and installing, maintaining, repairing, and enhancing interactive exhibits. The technician helps provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and staff while supporting hands-on science experiences.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance.
• Knowledge of facility operations, equipment repair, general trades, and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues, assess maintenance needs, and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
• Familiarity with computer systems and interfaces.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools for light fabrication.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet project deadlines, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Valid driver’s license required.

• Experience in applied arts, industrial design, or fabrication.
