About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the Maintenance Manager of Facility Services, the incumbent will perform general mechanical maintenance and repairs primarily within UWSP’s academic properties with the responsibility for maintenance and repair of general building envelope items including windows, doors, walls, flatwork, and roofs. The incumbent will also provide basic remodeling functions including demolition of walls, drop ceilings and flooring as well as installation of carpet tile, VCT tile, ceramic tile and assembly of modular office furniture and office/classroom appliances and fixtures. The incumbent will operate, and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely, perform strenuous physical labor, follow oral and written instructions, and keep daily computerized records. Additionally, the incumbent will prioritize personal workflow, read, comprehend, and work from plans and prints, maintain cooperative working relationships, and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse campus population. Key Job Responsibilities: Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities under general supervision Department: Facility Services – supports the academic mission of the university. Under general supervision of the Facility Services Maintenance Manager, this position will monitor, operate, adjust, maintain, and repair a variety of technical equipment for the campus and to help supply the campus with critical services. The skill, ability and knowledge of the incumbent will have direct and profound impact on the success and satisfaction level in the delivery of services to customers within the area of responsibility. Given the pace of emerging technology, the incumbent must stay in touch with industry/system-wide trends and best practices. This position will perform work independently, only referring matters to the supervisor for clarification. Requirements

  • Knowledge in safely operating power tools and hand tools
  • Basic knowledge in replacing VCT/Carpet flooring, drop ceiling tiles, and vinyl base trim
  • Basic knowledge of demolition equipment and required PPE
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills (Need to communicate with customers and supervisors.)
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Authorization to work within the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
  • Criminal background check
  • Minimum of three (3) professional references (one (1) of which being a current or former supervisor)

Nice To Haves

  • Driver’s License – Must have for 2+ years to be able to drive a state vehicle
  • Five (5) professional references (two (2) of which being a current or former supervisors)
