About The Position

Boston College is a Division One university with approximately 9,500 undergraduate students (7,700 residential), located on 118 acres in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a beautiful suburb seven miles from the center of Boston. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President and Director of Residential Education and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 22 graduate positions, 192 RAs, and 20 additional student employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of utilization of work order system, cell phone/Ipads, Google suite, and appropriate position technology preferred.
  • Experience in repairing furniture and knowledge of basic hand tools and repairs to furnishings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all residential life facilities are properly furnished and maintained throughout the calendar year.
  • Responding to student furniture work order requests, inventory, and the replacement of residence hall furnishings.
  • Providing training and supervision to 15-20 student workers and coordinating the daily work schedules of all facilities area student workers.
  • Conducting routine inspections of residential spaces and ensuring the preparation of the residence halls for occupancy throughout the year, including the preparation of guest and emergency spaces.
  • Assisting in the identification of safety & maintenance concerns and the communication of the same to the work order center, appropriate supervisors, and the Resident Directors.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of all furniture contained in the university’s over 7,700 student bed spaces, in addition to staff apartments, common areas, and lounges.
  • Perform comprehensive inspections of facilities, and ensure all rooms are properly furnished, equipped, and ready for occupancy, for both the academic semesters as well as summer student and conference groups.
  • Assisting with maintaining accurate inventory data of items in the off-site warehouse and storage locations within the residence halls and provides recommendations to their supervisor for Residence Hall areas that need upgrades, new furniture, or improvements.
  • Takes in deliveries of large furniture orders and installation of furniture in student rooms, lounges, and other areas; cuts and hangs shades; changes furniture inserts, and performs light furniture refurbishing/refinishing as needed.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and external vendors to report, address, and execute events related to the Residence Halls.
  • Submit necessary work orders and process work orders from students on a timely basis that pertain to residence hall furniture/blinds.
  • Provide training and supervision to designated student workers.
  • Coordinate the daily work schedules and assist with interviewing and selection of Residential Life facilities student workers.
  • Respond to facilities emergencies in the residence halls and support short and medium-term relocations of students in the event of a room becoming uninhabitable.
  • Contribute to the greater goals of the division and the university, which may include supporting division and university-wide initiatives, staffing events, and serving on committees as needed.
