About The Position

The City of Owatonna is a growing community strategically placed at the crossroads of I-35 and two major US highways, approximately one hour south of the Twin Cities metro area. The community has a commitment to growth, access to services, and quality of life for its 25,000 residents. The Facilities Department creates a better tomorrow by maintaining safe and accessible City facilities for the organization and community. This position is the fourth level of the Facilities Services Series and is responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings, equipment, machinery and grounds in accordance with diagrams, operational manuals, manufacturer's specifications and departmental procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D; 6 years facility maintenance or related experience: or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Licensed Carpenter (license shall be obtained within 2 years of hire).
  • Special Engineering Boilers License shall be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of procedures and methods related to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of inventory principles.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles.
  • Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal codes and regulations related to assignment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Skill in using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment.
  • Skill in performing trades maintenance activities.
  • Skill in reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings.
  • Skill in troubleshooting systems related to area of assignment.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining a variety of maintenance records.
  • Skill in monitoring and maintaining inventory.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspection, testing, installing, troubleshooting, and repair of applicable building structures and/or systems, which may include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and/or other applicable items.
  • Performs preventative maintenance activities in assigned area of responsibility to ensure efficient and effective operations. Monitors, checks, and performs preventive maintenance activities to applicable fixtures, equipment, and/or associated systems to ensure continued and uninterrupted operation.
  • Monitors and maintains materials, supplies, equipment, and/or other applicable inventory items in assigned area of responsibility; initiates the procurement of replacement items.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
