About The Position

This position assists the Architectural Services Office with administrative and technical work required for the management of county's vertical construction projects. The Facilities Project Manager is responsible for assisting with the development, planning, and overseeing all aspects of design, construction, and close-out of county vertical construction projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, and principles for the design and construction of buildings and facilities.
  • Knowledge of the different project delivery methods used in the industry.
  • Knowledge of Florida Building Codes.
  • Able to use good judgment in order to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to apply computer-based CPM scheduling applications and working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Able to learn to use computer aided drawing software.
  • Knowledge of construction project costs and estimating procedures.
  • Able to prepare project and design consultants scopes of work for review by the Architectural Services Manager.
  • Able to plan, coordinate and oversee construction professionals and consultants efficiently.
  • Able to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Able to communicate information effectively in both verbal and written form to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to establish and maintain strong working relationships with peers, other divisions, outside agencies and the public.
  • Able to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines and follow-up on assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  • Able to work on roofs, in attics and on ladders. Good balance, eye/hand coordination, near/far vision, and good hearing. Use of both hands and finger dexterity.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds. Reach above shoulders, kneeling, bending, and squatting.
  • Able to navigate through and around rough and uneven terrain.
  • Graduate of an accredited two (2) year college with major coursework in architecture, engineering, construction, construction management or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of building and construction experience.
  • Two (2) years in a construction management environment preferably.
  • Must be able to pass a national background check, mandated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which includes online security training.
  • A valid driver’s license is required; a Florida driver’s license must be obtained upon employment. The employee must maintain a clean driving record to operate an assigned county vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provides project management and coordination with county divisions, user groups and consultants in matters relating to programming, design and construction of major and minor county construction and remodeling projects.
  • Assists with the development of scopes of services, contract negotiations and project administration for assigned projects.
  • Participates in the preparation of feasibility studies and reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of project budgets, progress and status reports, letters, files, and other documentation related to projects.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintaining of project reports/files which include project schedule information and work activities.
  • Provides technical support and information to the Architectural Services Manager and division director.
  • Provides the office with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling/tracking as well as progress reports on assigned projects.
  • Observes progress and quality of the work as is reasonably necessary during the design and construction of assigned projects and reports same to the Architectural Services Manager.
  • Attends design and construction meetings held with design consultants and contractors as required.
  • Reviews monthly invoices and/or pay requisitions from the consultants and contractors and recommends approval to his/her superior.
  • Reviews requests for additional services and construction changes from consultants and contractors.
  • Prepares project change documents and forms as necessary. Acts on changes as directed.
  • Prepares technical drawings for small in-house construction projects using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Updates drawings database for leased buildings and completed construction projects.
  • Performs related duties as required.
