About The Position

Caterpillar is developing a new advanced manufacturing campus in Sanford, North Carolina, to expand production capacity for compact track loaders and telehandlers. The facility is expected to use automation, robotics, digital production systems, and integrated logistics capabilities to support safety, quality, and operational performance. The Facilities Project Civil Engineer will manage the civil facilities engineering workstream for the new facility, from initial requirements and design coordination through supplier selection, construction, installation, system integration, commissioning, startup, issue resolution, and handoff to operations. The role leads consultants, engineering design firms, contractors, and other specialists, ensuring project deliverables meet Caterpillar requirements and result in a safe, complete, production-ready facility. The engineer will coordinate with internal partners including Manufacturing, Legal, Accounting, Purchasing, Information Technology, and Safety, and provide leadership with clear updates on progress, risks, decisions, and system integration. The civil engineering focus includes developing site and facility infrastructure, civil systems, utilities, drainage, transportation access, and building interfaces. The role also coordinates utility networks, security systems, telecommunications, site lighting, digital technologies, and future expansion planning, and drives permitting, construction execution, commissioning, and issue resolution to ensure operational readiness. The position is onsite five days per week in Sanford, North Carolina. Work locations may flex between temporary offices during the transition to the new facility. Travel of 50–75% may be required at certain times during construction planning, supplier reviews, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and production ramp-up. The selected candidate should have schedule flexibility to meet project requirements. Domestic U.S. relocation is available; visa sponsorship is not available. The salary range is $128,470–$192,710. Employment offers are conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen.
