About The Position

The Walworth County Public Works Department is looking to hire a Parks Seasonal Laborer to assist in the maintenance of Walworth County parks and grounds. Seasonal Laborers will operate various types of small equipment and machinery to perform basic tasks while meeting departmental safety policies and procedures. Normal operating hours for the Public Works Department are Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with a shift in hours for the division to 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. during the summer season. The expectation is that this position will work 20 - 40 hours per week. This is a limited term position with the expectation of working no more than 1200 hours in a year.

Requirements

  • Completed a minimum of three years of high school
  • Possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with the public.
  • Ability to operate County vehicles in a safe and defensive manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations with co-workers, the public, vendors, and outside agencies.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial grade landscaping equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic landscape and lawn care duties, such as mowing designated areas; planting trees, shrubs, flowers and grass seed; manual weed removal and pruning.
  • Assist with basic facilities operations, such as special event set-ups, office moves, and other general labor activities.
  • Clean buildings and restrooms and stock facilities as required.
  • Operate various light machinery and equipment.
  • Repair, maintain, paint and/or stain park buildings, structures, signs and equipment.
  • Remove garbage, litter and debris from buildings, parking lots and grounds.
  • Show respect and be willing to assist the public.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
