About The Position

The Facilities Operations Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and overall functionality of the YMCA of Yonkers’ six-story facility, which includes community program spaces, administrative offices, and a 75-unit Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residence for adult men. This position supports daily building operations through a combination of hands-on maintenance, environmental services, inspections, event support, and responsive work order completion. The Facilities Operations Technician ensures the YMCA remains clean, safe, and welcoming for residents, members, staff, and guests. This role reports to the Superintendent and works collaboratively with the Building Engineer and Facilities team to uphold high standards of facility care and operational excellence. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, environmental services, property operations, or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and general building repairs.
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and maintenance tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical duties including bending, climbing, and extended standing.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety Training (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications as required (YMCA will provide support as needed).

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections and walkthroughs to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper building function.
  • Complete work orders related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC support, painting, minor repairs, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Assist the Building Engineer with preventive maintenance schedules and mechanical system upkeep.
  • Maintain fitness equipment and support routine equipment inspections.
  • Support vendor access and coordination as directed by the Superintendent or Building Engineer.
  • Document completed work in the Zoho Desk ticketing system to ensure timely tracking and resolution.
  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of program areas, locker rooms, restrooms, common spaces, hallways, stairwells, and SRO residential common areas.
  • Sanitize high-touch surfaces and equipment throughout the facility.
  • Conduct trash removal, recycling management, and supply restocking.
  • Respond to spills, leaks, floods, broken glass, and biohazard situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Support event setup and breakdown, including room arrangements and post-event cleaning.
  • Ensure YMCA standards of cleanliness and sanitation are consistently upheld.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related issues and urgent maintenance needs.
  • Assist during emergency situations, including alarm activations, water leaks, heating or plumbing failures, and other safety-related incidents.
  • Report safety hazards immediately and take appropriate corrective action when possible.
  • Participate in safety trainings and drills as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Building Engineer to ensure balanced workload distribution and facility coverage.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and safety briefings.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and member-focused service while working in public-facing areas.
  • Perform additional responsibilities, tasks, and special projects as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Operations and Community Engagement, or President and CEO to support the overall safety, functionality, and mission of the YMCA of Yonkers.
