About The Position

Under the direction of Stone Laboratory's management, this role assists with and coordinates the maintenance of all facilities, grounds, vehicles, and related equipment. The technician works directly with the facilities and maintenance leader to perform other maintenance and operational tasks, including minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, and electrical tasks. This position operates and maintains equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and the motor vehicle fleet. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory, care, and organization of tools and equipment, conducting routine vehicle maintenance checks, obtaining cost estimates, and working with third-party vendors for repairs and maintenance. The role involves facilitating programmatic use of vehicles with the Stone Lab business office, assisting with pick-up and delivery of food orders and freight, and weekly trash removal. Additionally, the technician assists with the seasonal deployment of laboratory equipment and infrastructure, provides updates to management, identifies and communicates operational issues, and assists with the coordination of other staff and volunteers. This is a seasonal full-time position, ranging from early Spring to late Fall, located at Put-in-Bay, OH.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists with and coordinates maintenance of all facilities, grounds, vehicles, and related equipment.
  • Performs minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
  • Operates and maintains equipment including mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and tractors.
  • Maintains inventory, care, and organization of tools and equipment.
  • Conducts routine maintenance checks on all vehicles (e.g., oil changes, tire checks, cleaning, safety inspections).
  • Obtains cost estimates and works with third-party vendors for vehicle repairs, grounds improvements, and equipment maintenance.
  • Facilitates programmatic use of vehicles and follows OSU policy and procedures for vehicle maintenance and reporting.
  • Assists with pick-up and delivery of food orders and freight.
  • Assists with weekly trash removal from all grounds.
  • Assists with seasonal deployment of laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
  • Provides updates and reports to Stone Lab management and Director.
  • Identifies and communicates issues related to general operation.
  • Assists with the coordination/guidance of other part-time and student staff and volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
